Awarded Research Grant: “Todos somos raros-todos somos únicos”

Our Project: ‘QUADRES: Quantification of Dystrophin Restoration by Exon Skippping’ has been selected to be funded by the scientific committee of the Telemarathon that was held to close the Spanish year of rare diseases in March 2014.
In this first edition of the telemarathon call, 97 projects were evaluated and 14 were selected for funding. This project aims to contribute to the development of new treatments for Duchenne muscular dystrophy and will fund a new postdoctoral scientist in our team.
“Todos somos raros” (We are all rare, we are all unique), is a collaboration amongst three charities: the Spanish federation of rare diseases (FEDER), the Spanish federation of neuromuscular disorders (ASEM) and Fundación Isabel Gemio with contribution from the Spanish Health Ministry and the National Spanish Television (RTVE).

Icebucket Challenge Summer 2014

During the summer we took part in the icebucket challenge to raise awareness and funds for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. As Dr Arechavala’s PhD was funded by the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) in the UK, she ended up doing it twice, one for the MNDA and one for FUNDELA, the Spanish foundation for research in MND.
